Reuteurs - The Philippines lost a total of 250,730 tonnes of paddy rice due to the strong typhoon that hit its northern provinces over the weekend, according to initial official estimates, exceeding a worst-case forecast by 60 percent.


The Department of Agriculture initially estimated crop damage at about 9.6 billion pesos ($177 million), but said that may increase as more field reports come in.

“We’re looking at about 11 to 12 billion (pesos) in agricultural damage,” Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Pinol said in an interview with CNN Philippines.

“But for corn, it’s a sad sight. Almost all crops were damaged,” he said. Pinol said he may recommend that the country also import corn to fill the possible shortfall.

With use of radar satellite data (Sentinel-1A), the Remote Sensing and GIS Center, NIAPP (Vietnam) is able to capture the flooded zones on 16 September 2018 over the northern Philippines.

Reuteurs - Quốc gia Philippines được dự báo đã thiệt hại khoảng 250.730 tấn lúa do tác động của cơn bão Mangkhut (Bão số 6) vào cuối tuần vừa qua khi nó tràn qua các tỉnh miền Bắc của nước này. Theo nguồn tin chính thức, con số này vượt quá mức dự báo xấu nhất đến 60 phần trăm.

Bộ Nông nghiệp nước này bước đầu ước tính thiệt hại vào khoảng 9.6 tỷ peso (177 triệu đô la), nhưng một thông báo khác nói rằng con số này có thể còn tăng lên trong các báo cáo sắp tới.

"Chúng tôi ước tính khoảng 11 đến 12 tỷ peso thiệt hại do tác động của cơn bão" - Bộ trưởng Bộ Nông nghiệp Emmanuel Pinol phát biểu trong một cuộc phỏng với CNN Philippines.

"Tình hình cũng rất bi quan đối với cây ngô, hầu như toàn bộ diện tích ngô bị thiệt hại nặng nề" - ông Pinol tiếp lời. Philippines sẽ phải nhập khẩu ngô để bù đắp cho sự thiếu hụt này.

Trung tâm Viễn thám và GIS, Viện Quy hoạch và Thiết kế Nông nghiệp (Bộ Nông nghiệp và Phát triển Nông thôn) đã sử dụng ảnh vệ tinh radar để tính toán diện tích ngập lụt tại Philippines do ảnh hưởng của cơn bão Mangkhut vào ngày 16 tháng 9 năm 2018.
